A daily $6 parking fee for travelers flying out of San Luis Valley Regional Airport is in effect following adoption of the plan Wednesday by the Alamosa County Board of Commissioners. The plan also includes a long-term parking fee of $30 for a vehicle planning to park at the airport for longer than a month.
The county commissioners had directed its airport committee to look at ways to generate additional revenue for the regional airport, and a parking fee was what came back as an option.
The daily parking fee is expected to generate around $79,000 per year for the regional airport based on the current number of people flying out of Alamosa and parking at the airport when they do. Alamosa County said enplanements are exceeding 10,000 passengers each year.
Alamosa County is also currently accepting bids for companies to provide Essential Air Service. The current provider is Denver Air Connection. Boutique Air, which held the contract prior to Denver Air, has also submitted a proposal. The county commissioners plan to make a recommendation to the FFA on an Essential Air Service provider in March.
SpotHero is the parking vendor Alamosa County will use. It uses a QR code system that requires customers to enter their license plate and dates for parking as part of the transaction.
