It is a midterm election year in 2026, and the town of Del Norte kicks off the voting with its town election in April.
Four trustee seats will be on the ballot when Del Norte holds its town election on April 7. Two ballot questions also will be decided – one on whether town elections should be moved to November and a second ballot question on term limits for local elected officials.
Candidates can pick up nomination petitions beginning Tuesday, Jan. 6. The last day to file a candidate nomination petition is Monday, Jan. 26.
The Del Norte town election will kick off a year of midterm voting, with local races scheduled in communities across the San Luis Valley in addition to the federal and state offices up for a vote.
Primary elections to determine major party candidates in local, state and federal races will be held on June 30. The midterm election is Nov. 3.
On the ballot in the six counties of the Valley will be races for county commissioner, sheriff, district attorney, county clerk and recorder, county assessor, county treasurer, county surveyor and county coroner.
At the state level, State Rep. Matthew Martinez will seek re-election to the Colorado House District 62 seat. Voters will also decide the next governor, attorney general, secretary of state, and state treasurer.
Congressman Jeff Hurd, Republican from Grand Junction, is up for re-election in the 3rd Congressional District. Alex Kelloff, with local ties to the San Luis Valley, is a candidate for the Democratic Party nomination for that seat.
